Can't add other group of objects to my selection

Hi,

I used to be able to press ctrl + shift to add new group of objects to my selection. but i can't do it any more. now it seems with shift button i can select a group, then pressing ctrl alone i can add single objects to my selection but not a group of them.

Am I missing something?
Please help.
