Audio Not Playing in Custom Audio Group

I'm using audio_play_sound to play music but because I want to control the volume of sound effects and music separately I created a new audio group called audiogroup_menumusic and added the music to it. Everything else remains in audiogroup_default. After adding the music to the custom audio group it no longer plays when I attempt to play it using audio_play_sound.

• The audio group is loaded ✓
• The audio asset exists ✓
• I have cleared the cache ✓

It simply will not play...
